I spent over 10 years investing 100’s of millions of dollars in hedge funds on behalf of large U.S. endowments. I even worked in partnership with industry behemoths such as Blackstone and Grosvenor. Not only did I invest in some of the most well-regarded funds in the world, but I also researched well over a thousand of them. I got to see firsthand the inner workings, and most importantly, the value contribution of hedge funds to institutional investment portfolios. I realized that they have little to offer…in fact, I concluded that they were better “wealth transfer” vehicles, except the wealth was headed in the wrong direction.
