As a young student, Elayne was that inquisitive kid who took things apart to understand how they worked. Her father’s encouragement to think independently fostered a highly analytical mindset that initially led her to follow in his footsteps by pursuing a career in engineering. After a few years, however, Elayne recognized a void in her day-to-day routine. Although engineering made practical use of her analytical skills, it did not allow her to make the most of her other gifts — a caring heart and a genuine desire to help others.
